Business Owners Speak Up at County Council

Tuesday, Feb. 6, Business League VP John Angel and Veronica’s bakery co-owner Eddy Campos testified before the Montgomery County Council.
They spoke out in support of a proposed amendment to the County’s capital improvement plan (CIP) that would allow for more flexible use of the existing Long Branch capital funds (roughly $300,000).
The amendment would make possible an increase in direct technical support to businesses in Long Branch, thereby helping respond to Purple Line construction-related challenges.
In his remarks, Campos emphasized that even small businesses like Veronica’s bakery can have big plans.
“I ask you today to help us compete with the Chipotles and Starbucks of the world,” Campos stated. “Your help means maintaining the character of our neighborhood and allowing us to continue serving the community for the next 11 years.”
MHP’s Paul Grenier also spoke at the hearings, emphasizing in his remarks the multiple survival challenges faced by small businesses.
